Woodworking courses for the creatively curious.
Handcrafted furniture for considered spaces.
Hello, welcome to Froe.
We are furniture makers Ellis Stacey and Andrew Joye and we love creating beautiful things and introducing others to the joys of woodworking. Based just south of Oxford’s historic Folly Bridge, our vine-draped former punt builder’s workshop provides the perfect tranquil setting for working with wood and passing on the skills and techniques of our craft.
Suitable for all - from curious beginners to seasoned makers – our range of short courses provide practical, hands-on tuition in traditional hand-tool woodworking, joinery and finishing techniques. Each course is focused on a central creative project which you will complete and then take home to use, cherish and smugly show-off to friends and family.
We believe that the act of making is as important as the final piece made, and so our workshops are about more than learning new skills. We want to offer a time to slow down, to escape the screen-stream of Tik Tok videos, “delivery notification” emails and Family WhatsApp Group gifs. Whether it is spokeshaving a spindle, chiselling to a marked line or sawing a tenon, there is an unhurried pleasure to working intentionally with one's hands. These are processes that reward patience, focus and careful attention to detail, and we hope that you will find your time with us fun and relaxing as well as informative.
Alongside teaching, we indulge our wood-related passion projects, create speculative pieces and welcome commissions and collaborations. If you would like us to make something special for you – a piece of bespoke furniture, sculpture or interior joinery – then please get in touch!
With thanks,
Andrew & Ellis
